Für Elise

* Artist Statement 
Because of its geological and geographical singularities, as well as its histories, traditions and shamanistic myths, Jeju is filled with all sorts of different stories. 
Among all, I found myself interested in not the nature nor traditions, but Koh Seung Wook. Ironically, my curiosity on him overwhelmed that on the Mother Nature. 
An artistic fan of his could share the same residence. Using the room right next to his (#503), I began to fantasize his place. 
When I sat in my living room, I wondered how Koh was spending the day on the other side. As I passed by, I kept glancing over his door. 
This work was not only an homage to Koh Seung Wook's <Für Elise (2005)>, but also a termination of "the most bothersome" during the residency.

제주의 지리적, 지형적 특이점과 제주가 지니고 있는 역사 와 전통, 무속 등 제주는 다양한 이야기 거리로 가득 차있다. 그중 나에게 가장 관심이 되었던 건 환경도 전통도 아닌 고승욱 이라는 존재였다. 아이러니 하게도 고승욱에 대한 호기심이 대자연을 무릎 꿇게 했다. 작업적 펜이었던 내가 고승욱 작가와 같은 숙소에 머물게 된 것. 숙소의 옆방(503호)을 쓴다는 것은 그곳에 대한 호기심을 가득 불러일으켰다. 숙소 거실에 앉아 이 벽 너머에 있는 고승욱은 어떤 생활을 할지를 궁금해 하고, 숙소를 드나들며 항상 그곳의 문 너머를 슬쩍 넘겨보는 일.
이 작업은 고승욱 작가의 여러 작업 중 ‘엘리제를 위하여’ 에 대한 오마주 이며, 레지던시 입주기간 최대 ‘신경 쓰임’ 에 대한 정리이기도 하다.

On behalf of myself, who has departed after the performance, an object made with wood, a motion-sensor, a motor and rubber bands stays behind in the gallery to 
continue the performative movements.
